An internship in Australia presents a unique opportunity to be completely immersed in the culture and work environment down under!  Working and learning alongside locals provides a unique insight into the beauty of the culture and customs of the Aussies.  Whether you complete your internship researching starfish on the Great Barrier Reef or working at a 5-star hotel in the heart of Sydney - our Custom Placement Service will match your internship to your field of study.  Select our optional tour package and you’ll get a guidebook, tour of your host city, and an excursion to visit places like Magnetic Island where you can cuddle with koalas or spend a day zip-lining through the trees!  Inspire yourself to start a new adventure!

Custom Internship Program
 
The Custom Internship Program offers candidates an opportunity to gain professional work experience and improve career opportunities in almost all academic fields and a wide range of industries. It is aimed at candidates seeking work experience/ internship positions in Australia. An internship is a great way to gain exposure into the professional work environment and develop professional workplace skills. All placements are non-paid training positions and they are available in all major cities of Australia. The Professional Internship Program will give candidates entry to Australia’s leading organizations.

  • Open to ALL U.S. Citizens but other nationalities should check the visa section to see about eligibility
  • You must be a current university student or have graduated no more than 18 months from the start of your program

Hospitality Internship Program

The Hospitality Program is a paid internship program offered to highly skilled candidates that are completing or have completed hospitality studies and have relevant hospitality experience.  Internships are available for 6, 9, or 12 months. 

Program Information
  • Positions are available in:
    • Food and Beverage, Front Office and Culinary/Cookery
  • Internship applications must be submitted a minimum of 6 months prior to arrival in Australia and 5 months prior for candidates with a suitable working visa.
  • All candidates must complete a telephone interview with our Australian office before being accepted into the internship program.
  • Candidates must be willing to complete their internship in a hotel, resort or restaurant in any of the major tourist centres throughout Australia.
  • The first week in the workplace for all interns will be focused on training and induction.
  • Internships are arranged on a full time basis with interns completing a minimum of 30 hours per week
  • The average hourly rate for interns is AU$15-$20. This wage may vary depending on the Host Organization and internship hours.

  • Be between the age of 18 – 30
  • Minimum of 2 years university level education in hospitality field
  • Minimum 6 months full time professional experience in the selected internship department
  • Be currently enrolled in a university or be a recent graduate within 18 months of course completion
  • Upper intermediate – advanced English language skills
  • Strong knowledge of the hospitality industry both domestically and internationally
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in rural and remote locations
Dates
  • Interns have the flexibility of choosing their preferred start dates.  Please apply 5-6 months prior to your desired start date.
Responsible Service of Alcohol
  • All interns who opt for the Hospitality Internship Program must present a copy of their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate or complete the online RSA course, prior to commencing their internship in Australia. (Approx. AU$ 110)

*Note: You can now earn transfer credit from Truman State University when you complete an internship with International Internships LLC!

Housing

We will help arrange your housing while in Australia.  You will pay your housing provider directly. Housing is dependent upon the location of your internship placement and availability.  It will be secured only after your placement in confirmed.  Accommodation options and availability may vary. Once the housing placement has been found, a more accurate cost will be provided, however students should budget for approximately $1000/month.  We charge a housing placement fee of $250.

All candidates must have a valid visa for entry into Australia.  We will assist you but in most cases (except the 416 Visa) you are responsible for arranging and securing the visa. For most of the Professional Internship Programs, the 408 Temporary Activity Visa is appropriate, and for the Hospitality Internship Program, the 407 Training Visa is appropriate. 

462 Work & Holiday Visa
  • The Work & Holiday Program provides opportunities for people between 18 and 30 to holiday in Australia and to supplement their travel funds through incidental employment.
  • The visa allows a stay of up to 12 months from the date of first entry to Australia, regardless of whether or not you spend the whole time in Australia.
  • Applicants from the following countries can complete an internship on the W&H Visa for a maximum of six months:
    • Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, USA, Uruguay
  • The applicant must provide our office with evidence of the W&H Visa prior to the internships start date.
  • There is an annual limit to the number of Work and Holiday visas issued to each country. Please refer to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website for more information: 462 VISA INFO  (There is NO limit to the W&H 462 visa for American Citizens)

407 Training Visa 
  • Open to ALL Nationalities
  • Our Australian Internships Partner office has been approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for the Training Visa 407.
  • You must be between 18 and 30 years old
  • Our Australian Internships Partner office will issue the necessary documentation to suitable candidates so they are able to obtain the Training Visa 407.
  • The Occupational Trainee Visa allows foreign nationals to complete structured and supervised workplace-based training programs in Australia on a temporary basis.
  • Be a recent graduate (within 18 months at the time of application) or a current student that has completed Diploma or higher level of education
  • Undertake an Internship that directly relates to their field of tertiary education
  • Hold at least 6 months relevant experience in the selected internship department
  • The visa can be applied for both in Australia and abroad.
  • Candidates must have sufficient English to undertake the training programme and to ensure occupational health and safety standards are met.

408 Temporary Activity Visa
  • Open to ALL nationalities
  • Our Australian Internships Partner office has been approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for the 408.
  • You must be between 18 and 30 years old
  • Our Australian Internships Partner office will issue the necessary documentation to suitable candidates so they are able to obtain the Temporary Activity Visa 408.
  • Current students and recent graduates (up to 18 months after graduation) can complete an internship for periods of up to 26 weeks.
  • Undertake an internship that directly relates to their field of  tertiary education
  • Not have previously undertaken an internship performing similar duties at the same skill level
  • The visa application will not be submitted to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection until our Australian Internships Partner office have received the visa fee. If a delay occurs due to this, International Internships LLC accepts no responsibility.
  • Temporary Activity Visa applications should be made to allow for at least 28 days processing time.

417 Working Holiday Visa
  • The working holiday Program provides opportunities for people between 18 and 30 to holiday in Australia and to supplement their travel funds through incidental employment.
  • The visa allows a stay of up to 12 months from the date of first entry to Australia, regardless of whether or not you spend the whole time in Australia.
  • Applicants from the following countries can complete an internship on the WHV for a maximum of six months:
  • A-F: Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Republic of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France
  • G-L: Germany, HKSAR*, Ireland, Republic of Italy, Japan, Korea
  • M-Z: Republic of Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom
  • *Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (includes British National Overseas passport holders).
  • The applicant must provide Australian Internships with evidence of the WHV prior to the internships start date.
