An internship in Australia presents a rare opportunity to be completely immersed within the culture and work environment down under! Working and learning alongside native Australians provides a unique insight into the beauty of the culture and customs of the Aussies. In addition, the issues of language will not obstruct the experience for English speakers. The experience of interning in Australia will enrich your professional career in a way that just travel and study alone cannot.

We have set program dates but we ARE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE ANY TIME FRAME YOU WISH TO INTERN IN AUSTRALIA!


We essentially offer two INTERNSHIP Programs in AUSTRALIA:
  • Professional Internship Program
  • Hospitality Internship Program


Professional Internship Program
 
The Professional Internship Program offers candidates an opportunity to gain professional work experience and improve career opportunities in almost all academic fields and a wide range of industries. It is aimed at candidates seeking work experience/ internship positions in Australia. An internship is a great way to gain exposure into the professional work environment and develop professional workplace skills. All placements are non-paid training positions and they are available in all major cities of Australia. The Professional Internship Program will give candidates entry to Australia’s leading organizations.

Note: Positions in the Health Industry for doctors, nurses, dentists etc. are NOT available due to government restrictions. *Certain fields may require extra lead time and/or additional requirements such as portfolios. Contact us if you don't see your field listed to see if we offer placements in that area.
 

Hospitality Internship Program

The Hospitality Program is a paid internship program offered to highly skilled candidates that are completing or have completed hospitality studies and have relevant hospitality experience. 
  • Open to ALL nationalities
  • There are 6, 9 & 12 months options
  • Positions are available in Food and Beverage, Front Office and Culinary/Cookery
  • Internship applications must be submitted a minimum of six (6) months prior to internship commencement or arrival in Australia and 5 months prior for candidates with a suitable working visa.
  • All candidates must complete a telephone interview with our Australian office before being accepted into the internship program.
  • Candidates must be willing to complete their internship in a hotel, resort or restaurant in any of the major tourist centres throughout Australia.
  • The first week in the workplace for all interns will be focused on training and induction.
  • Interns will be required to cover the cost of their travel and accommodation.
  • Internships are arranged on a full time basis with interns completing a minimum of 30 hours per week
  • The average hourly rate for interns is AU$15-$20. This wage may vary depending on the Host Organization and internship hours.
ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible for the Hospitality Internship Program candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • Be between the age of 18 – 30
  • Minimum of 2 years tertiary education in hospitality (not required for Working Holiday Visa Holders)
  • Minimum 6 months full time professional experience in the selected internship department
  • Be currently enrolled in a tertiary course, or Be a recent graduate within 24 months of course completion
  • Upper intermediate – advanced English language skills
  • Strong knowledge of the hospitality industry both domestically and internationally
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in rural and remote locations
START DATES
  • Interns have the flexibility of choosing their preferred start dates (allow for 5 – 6 months lead time).
LEAD TIME
  • 6 months for Training and Research 402 candidates (Occupational Trainee stream)
  • 5 months for candidates with proof of suitable working visas (e.g. Working Holiday Visa)
RESPONSIBLE SERVICE OF ALCOHOL (RSA):
  • All interns who opt for the Hospitality Internship Program must present a copy of their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate or complete the online RSA course, prior to commencing their internship in Australia. 

*Note: You can now earn transfer credit from Truman State University when you complete an internship with International Internships LLC!

HOUSING

We can help arrange your housing while in Australia for a small fee (USD$ 250).  You will pay your housing provider directly.  Housing is dependent upon the location of your internship placement and availability.  It will be secured only after your placement in confirmed.  Accommodation options and availability may vary. Once the housing placement has been found, a more accurate cost will be provided.

VISAS

All candidates must have a valid visa for entry into Australia.  We will assist you but in most cases (except the 416 Visa) you are responsible for arranging and securing the visa. For most of the Professional Internship Programs, the 462-Work & Holiday Visa is appropriate, and for the Hospitality Internship Program, the Training and Research Visa 402 is appropriate.  If either of these are not feasible, our Australian office is approved to issue the SPECIAL PROGRAM 416 VISA.

462 Work & Holiday Visa
  • The work & holiday Program provides opportunities for people between 18 and 30 to holiday in Australia and to supplement their travel funds through incidental employment.
  • The visa allows a stay of up to 12 months from the date of first entry to Australia, regardless of whether or not you spend the whole time in Australia.
  • Applicants from the following countries can complete an internship on the W&H Visa for a maximum of six months:
    • Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, USA, Uruguay
  • The applicant must provide our office with evidence of the W&H Visa prior to the internships start date.
  • There is an annual limit to the number of Work and Holiday visas issued to each country. Please refer to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website for more information:  www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/462.aspx  (There is NO limit to the W&H 462 visa for American Citizens)

402 Training and Research Visa (Occupational Trainee stream)
  • Open to ALL Nationalities
  • Our Australian Internships Partner office has been approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection  for the Training and Research Visa 402 (Occupational Trainee stream).
  • Suitable candidates aged 18 to 30 are eligible for entry with the 402 visa.
  • Our Australian Internships Partner office will issue the necessary documentation to suitable candidates so they are able to obtain the Training and Research Visa 402 (Occupational Trainee stream).
  • The Occupational Trainee visa allows foreign nationals to complete structured and supervised workplace-based training programs in Australia on a temporary basis.
  • This visa is valid for up to two years
  • Candidates have to be at least 18 years of age
  • Seeking occupational training in a closely related field
  • The visa can be applied for both in Australia and abroad.
  • Candidates must have sufficient English to undertake the training programme and to ensure occupational health and safety standards are met.

416 Special Program Visa
  • Our Australian Internships Partner office has been approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for the Special Program 416.
  • Open to ALL nationalities
  • Suitable candidates aged 18 to 30 are eligible for entry with the 416 visa.
  • Our Australian Internships Partner office will issue the necessary documentation to suitable candidates so they are able to obtain the Special Program Visa 416.
  • Current students and recent graduates (up to 24 months after graduation) can complete an internship for periods of up to 26 weeks.
  • This visa option provides flexibility to complete short periods of English language studies prior to your internship program commencement in Australia.
  • The English language component can only make up 20% of the total time the applicant wishes to spend in Australia. If more intensive English language is required, the applicant would need to enter Australia on a more appropriate visa.
  • The visa application will not be submitted to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection until our Australian Internships Partner office have received the visa fee. If a delay occurs due to this, International Internships LLC accepts no responsibility.
  • Special Program Visa applications should be made to allow for at least 28 days processing time.

417 Working Holiday Visa
  • The working holiday Program provides opportunities for people between 18 and 30 to holiday in Australia and to supplement their travel funds through incidental employment.
  • The visa allows a stay of up to 12 months from the date of first entry to Australia, regardless of whether or not you spend the whole time in Australia.
  • Applicants from the following countries can complete an internship on the WHV for a maximum of six months:
  • A-F: Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Republic of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France
  • G-L: Germany, HKSAR*, Ireland, Republic of Italy, Japan, Korea
  • M-Z: Republic of Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom
  • *Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (includes British National Overseas passport holders).
  • The applicant must provide Australian Internships with evidence of the WHV prior to the internships start date.
