Interns will be placed in either Beijing or Shanghai. You may voice your preference but location is not always guaranteed. The internships are with multinational, foreign, or Chinese companies. Most placements do not require Chinese fluency but some language experience is highly recommended. If you have no Chinese language experience we recommend the Internship + Language Program which will give you the necessary language preparation and tools for a successful internship.
Most of the internships are in the Business Development, Research, Human Resources or Marketing departments of various industries - however, with new client companies coming on board every year, we are expanding the breadth of industries and fields in which we can secure placements. Since our placements are all customized to the experience and background of each individual student, you may contact our office even if you think you may not fit the traditional model. Since we guarantee a placement or you receive your deposit back... there is little downside to letting us try to find a placement for you!
International Internships LLC offers two internship programs in China:
- Summer: 9-weeks - Beijing or Shanghai
- Long-Term: 3 - 12 months - Beijing or Shanghai
Summer Internship Options (9-weeks):
- Internship Only Option
The Internship Only Option is for those individuals who would like to devote all of their time and energy towards working and are not interested in Chinese language study. Students are placed in a domestic Chinese or an international company in one of the three fields chosen. The actual internship duties will vary based on the skills and experience of the intern. If you do not have any previous Chinese language experience, we recommend that you take the Internship + language study option as English is not widely spoken and learning the local language contributes to the overall experience of living abroad.
Intern Work Hours: Minimum of 32 hours per week - typically Monday through Thursday
Stipend: 50 RMB or more per day worked
Location: Beijing or Shanghai
- Internship + Language Study Option
This is the most popular option, exposing students to the full range of experiences available in China - working, language study, and experiencing China's culture. Students are placed in a domestic Chinese or an international company in one of the three fields chosen and will attend class at a local Chinese language school. The student may choose between beginner level, intermediate level, or advanced level courses; students may be given a placement test to determine the appropriate course level. We encourage applicants who do not speak Chinese to take this option as English is not widely spoken and learning the local language contributes to the overall experience of living abroad.
Intern Work Hours: Minimum 24 hours per week - typically Tuesday through Thursday
Language Course Hours: 6 hours per week (48 hours total) - typically Monday and Friday
Location: Beijing or Shanghai
